Make a difference in our community by joining the 16th annual Cycle for Strong Kids fundraiser on Sunday, May 28! One hundred percent of the funds raised provide low-income children an opportunity to be healthy at the Y. Every dollar raised stays local and provides essential programs for those in need.

A group of 30 people are dressed up in costumes and bright colors, and sitting on stationary bikes in an outdoor class. They are all smiling and cheering and holding their hands up in the air.

“It is so important to support our local families facing financial difficulties. Our goal is to raise $130,000 for our community,” says Tammie Watson, YMCA of Southern Interior BC VP of Philanthropy. “We are immensely grateful for the support of our sponsors, local businesses and donors who are making it possible for the Y to offer accessible programs for children and youth in our community regardless of financial circumstances.”

H2O Adventure and Fitness Centre will be hosting a 45-minute stationary cycle class outside for the event.  Participants can join as individuals or as a team and fundraise prior to the event. Donations to the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign allow the Y to offer free community initiatives, including employment programs, young parent and mental wellness programs for vulnerable youth, and an afterschool enrichment program for at-risk children.

One of these programs, Jumpstart, is a free YMCA life skills and employment program for teenagers. One recent graduate recalls her experience, “I struggled before I did Jumpstart, but am now more self-assured.” Alec shares, “The program not only helped me get the skills I need to get hired but empowered me to improve my health, meet new people and do well in school.” All proceeds from Cycle for Strong Kids will fund programs like Jumpstart and support students like Alec.
